Completion Rate
Completion rate is the percentage of viewers who watch a video from start to end. On TikTok and Instagram Reels, it is the single most important ranking factor. A completion rate above 60% is considered viral-quality.

Completion rate is calculated per individual view, not per unique viewer. A 30-second clip watched fully by 1,000 viewers has a 100% completion rate; the same clip skipped at 10 seconds by half the audience drops to 50%.
The fastest way to lift completion rate is shorter clips. Reducing a Reel from 30 to 15 seconds typically doubles the completion rate without changing the content. The shorter the clip, the easier the bar.
Completion rate compounds: a high-completion Reel gets pushed to more viewers, which generates more completion data, which pushes it further. This is why most viral Reels are under 20 seconds.
