Follower-to-Engagement Ratio
Follower-to-engagement ratio is the average interactions per post divided by follower count, expressed as a percentage. Healthy bands sit at 1–5% on Instagram and 4–8% on TikTok. Falling outside the band is the primary signal both platforms use to flag suspicious growth.

This single ratio is the most-watched account-health number in the creator economy. Brand sponsors price deals against it, and both Instagram and TikTok use it to decide whether to throttle distribution.
The two ways to break the ratio are buying followers without proportional engagement (denominator grows, numerator stagnates) or buying engagement without followers (the spike looks unnatural on a small account).
The fix in either direction is balanced procurement: combo packages that lift both numbers together so the ratio stays inside the natural band the algorithms expect for your niche.
