    Social Proof

Social proof is the conversion effect where users decide whether to follow an account partly based on its existing follower count, engagement, and verification badges. Crossing visible thresholds (1k, 10k, 100k) creates measurable jumps in profile-to-follow conversion.

Profile-visit-to-follow conversion roughly doubles between 900 and 1,100 followers, and again between 9k and 11k. These thresholds are the highest-ROI follower-purchase milestones because the gain compounds organically afterwards.

Beyond raw follower count, the cleanest social-proof signals are: matching engagement-to-follower ratio, recent posting activity, and a complete profile (bio, link, highlights). A high follower count with 0% engagement now reads as suspicious.

Brand sponsors evaluate social proof through three lenses: follower count, engagement rate, and audience-quality score (real-account percentage). Optimising all three is what separates a hobby account from a sponsorable one.
