Stream Royalties
Stream royalties are the per-play payment Spotify makes to rights holders for each qualifying stream. A stream qualifies once a listener has played at least 30 seconds. Payout rates in 2026 range from $0.003 per free-tier stream up to $0.012 per Premium stream, depending on country, currency mix and the artist's distribution agreement.

Free-tier streams pay the lowest rate - typically $0.003–$0.005. Premium streams pay 2–3× more, $0.007–$0.012, because Premium subscriber revenue funds a larger royalty pool per stream.
Spotify doesn't pay artists directly. Royalties flow through the artist's distributor (DistroKid, TuneCore, Symphonic, AWAL, etc.) which deducts its cut and pays out the artist on the distributor's payment schedule.
The 30-second qualifying threshold means high-retention plays from real accounts produce royalty income; bot plays from low-quality providers usually don't trigger payouts and can be reversed during Spotify's quarterly integrity sweeps.
