Saves
A save is when a user bookmarks your post for later. Instagram weights saves more heavily than any other engagement type because they signal long-term value rather than reflexive scrolling. Save-to-impression ratios above 1% reliably trigger Explore distribution.

In Instagram's 2025–2026 ranking model, saves are roughly 3× more impactful than likes and 2× more impactful than comments per signal. The reasoning is that saves require deliberate intent - users save what they will return to.
Carousel posts and infographic content win saves disproportionately. That's why educational content tends to outperform aesthetic content on reach, even when both get similar like counts.
Saves are publicly invisible (only the post owner sees the count), which is why they're a less corrupted signal than likes - there's no social-proof incentive to save what you don't actually value.
