Editorial playlist placement is the single biggest organic accelerant on Spotify - one Fresh Finds slot can add 50,000 monthly listeners in a week. Here is the actual process that gets independent artists picked.

Step 1: Submit through Spotify for Artists (mandatory)

If you don't submit your unreleased track through Spotify for Artists at least 7 days before release, you are not eligible for editorial consideration. This is a hard gate. The submission form gives editors mood tags, genre, instrumentation and 500 characters of context.

Step 2: Write a pitch curators actually read

Editors process hundreds of pitches per playlist per week. The pitches that survive have three things: a one-line vibe descriptor ("slow-burn alt-R&B for late-night drives"), two reference artists already on similar playlists, and one credibility signal (label, sync, festival, prior placement). Skip the bio.

    Step 3: Stack release-day velocity

Editors look at first-48-hour metrics when deciding which pitches to bet on. Pre-saves, save-rate, and skip-rate all factor in. Pre-saves are the highest-leverage of the three because they convert into Day-1 streams automatically. A pitch with 2,000 pre-saves attached beats the same pitch with zero.

Step 4: Pair editorial with user-curated outreach

Editorial pitches are slow and binary - you're in or you're out. User-curated playlist submissions are fast and incremental. Use our Pitch Generator to spin up the curator-email, editorial 500-char, and DM versions of your pitch in one pass, then send the email version to 30-50 curators on day one.

What to do if you get rejected

Roughly 65% of submissions get rejected from primary editorial. The algorithmic Release Radar still picks you up automatically if you have follower momentum, and Discover Weekly kicks in around week two if your save-rate is above 8%. Editorial isn't the only path - it's the fastest one.
